About the Holiday Care Challenge
What is the Holiday Care Challenge?
The Holiday Care Challenge is a community donation initiative where families, workplaces, schools, and local groups collect essential items for children supported by Suncoast Voices for Children. Instead of exchanging white elephant gifts, guests simply bring one item to donate. Everything collected stays in Pinellas and Pasco counties.
Who receives the donated items?
All items go directly to Suncoast Voices for Children, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports abused, abandoned, and neglected children involved with the child welfare system. Donations help fill emergency needs when no other resources are available.
What areas does this program serve?
The Holiday Care Challenge benefits children living in Pinellas and Pasco counties, where Suncoast Voices operates four supply closets used by Child Protection Investigators every day.

Hosting a Donation Drive
How do I register my donation drive
Registering only takes a minute. Use our online form here to share the basic details about your event so we can send you resources for your guests and help coordinate drop-off or pickup options. Registration also allows us plan December pickup routes in Pinellas and Pasco counties.
What types of events can host a drive
Almost any gathering can become a Holiday Care Challenge event. Family holiday parties, office celebrations, church groups, PTAs, school clubs, service organizations, condo socials, and neighborhood block parties can all invite guests to bring one essential item to donate.
What items are needed most?
High need items include diapers, baby wipes, diaper cream, baby bottles, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, ethnic hair products and other baby and toddler items.
Other needed items include twin bedding, pack-n-play cribs and sheets, as well as all sizes (infant to age 18) of pajamas, socks, and underwear.
These essentials are requested daily by Child Protection Investigators and help support children during emergencies and transitions.
How do I tell guests what to bring
After you register, you will receive a printable flyer, a digital list of suggested items, and graphics you can share by text, email, or social media. Many hosts simply say something like, “Instead of white elephant gifts, please bring one essential item to donate.”
Donation Logistics
How do donation pickups work?
Please register your donation drive here so that we can often help coordinate a pickup in December. After your event, you will receive an email with simple instructions to schedule a pick-up date.
Where can I drop off donated items?
All donated items should be dropped off directly to Suncoast Voices for Children so they can be sorted, stocked, and distributed to children in Pinellas and Pasco counties. If you would like to schedule a drop off time or need help coordinating where to bring your items, please contact Executive Director Amber Slusser for assistance.
Amber can be reached at:
aslusser@suncoastvoices.org
727-275-0066 (office)
727-433-7411 (cell)
She will help you arrange a convenient drop off time and provide the most current information for the closest supply closet or receiving location.
Can you accept bulk items or couponer stockpiles?
Yes. Bulk donations, surplus inventory, and couponer stockpiles are very helpful when they match the list of high need essentials. If Suncoast Voices is unable to use certain items due to limited storage space, they may be able to refer you to another local nonprofit that can make use of your donation.
Other needed items include twin bedding, pack-n-play cribs and sheets, as well as all sizes (infant to age 18) of pajamas, socks, and underwear.
These essentials are requested daily by Child Protection Investigators and help support children during emergencies and transitions.
What if I want to donate something that is not on the list?
If an item is new and appropriate for children or teens, it is very likely welcome. If you are unsure, reach out before your event and we can help you decide. When an item is not a good fit for the supply closets, we will do our best to suggest another local organization that can benefit from it.
